Bilston delivered another 3 points in this tough game against Crewe, eventually running out 2-0 victors at Queen Street.
A Jordan Crump injury and Darragh Bustin holiday meant that Callum Powell started his first game in Bilston colours, with Dan Harvey also back in the middle of the park, and Nathan Guest back on the left wing.
Bilston started the better side, but things quickly turned into a scrappy midfield tussle after a nasty moment when a full speed Guest crashed into the pitchside barrier. Thankfully he was able to carry on after a few minutes of treatment.
Chances remained few and far between, although a wayward kick from the Crewe keeper midway through the half saw Sam Yankson almost put the Steelmen ahead.
The half time interval couldn’t come soon enough, and thankfully the second half started much better, with a few chances coming down the Bilston right hand side thanks to some great link up play between Tyrique Hunter and Sam Yankson.
It was from one of these attacks that Bilston gained a corner about 15 yards from the goal line. A Natty Hewitt long throw special eventually unlocked the game, with Ben Priest jumping above two (massive!) defenders to flick his header towards the back post. Harry Dixon got himself on the end of the flick-on, and his connection was enough to just beat the keeper, before bouncing up and in off the crossbar.
The goal seemed to settle Bilston’s nerves, and it wasn’t too long before Harry Dixon was through again… this time running down the left hand side after a great through ball from Haydn Hall was nicely played into his path by Yankson. Dixon bore down on the keeper while keeping the chasing defenders at bay and eventually placed the ball through the goalie’s legs with a left footed shot.
Both teams had made a number of substitutions by now, with Luke Carter making an appearance after his recent injury, alongside Callum Bright and a returning Jaden Henry-Dean. Bright almost made it 3-0 with a shot that thundered off the bar in the final few minutes.
Final score: Bilston Town 2 – Crewe FC 0
Goalscorers: Harry Dixon (2)
