Almost 200 fans were thoroughly entertained by Bilston as they rolled out comfortable winners against Widnes Town in a 7-0 goalfest.
Dave King set the team up with a very attacking formation from the off, with Callum Bright keeping his place on the left, Harry Dixon joining Crump andf Yankson up front, and Dan Harvey making his full debut in midfield.
The away team actually started well, with Bilston having to defend a corner in the every first minute… but from then on it was pretty much one way traffic.
The first goal came with a well-taken finish from Jordan Crump and Bilston could – and almost certainly should – have scored a couple more before Harry Dixon finally put one away after a goalmouth scramble.
The team were firing on all cylinders, with the midfield and defence combining well to create endless chances. After another couple of missed chances, Ben Priest came up for a corner and buried a looping header into the bottom left corner. It was almost chalked off for offside, but the referee rightly ruled that the goal should stand, and that it was already in the net before a late touch from Harvey.
The second half started with a flurry of Bilston goals, and the crowd was absolutely loving it! Hewitt was the first to score after some great early pressure – a goal he thoroughly deserved after his form over the past few games – and it was quickly followed up by another from Crump.
Amazingly. Bilston scored a third second half goal to make it 6 after just 51 minute, with Dixon nailing a nice right-footed finish into the corner.
The game calmed down a little at this point, but a fantastic corner from Bustin saw Haydn Hall head a fantastic ball back across the goalmouth for Callum Bright to latch onto, directing a firm header back across the helpless keeper to make it 7-0.
Dave King made a number of substitutions at this point, with Cole Wells catching the eye down the right hand side of attack, and a returning Nathan Guess offering some quality down the left.
The fans left happy… although we have to wonder what could have been if the first half chances had been converted. And while Widnes Town will have left feeling deflated, it sounds like things may be looking up for them off the field after some recent struggles. We’d like to wish them all he best and hope they have a positive future ahead.
